Transcription/Audio

An Audio Typist is someone who works mainly with one person dictations such as Solicitors, Surveyors and Doctors.

Transcription is the conversion of spoken word into written, typewritten or printed form and is usually more than one person speaking at a time such as focus group meetings, interviews and conference calls.

The industry standard for a piece of work to be typed from an audio recording, is on average 3 to 4 times the length of the audio. For example, if you were to send us a recording of 60 audio minutes, this would take us anywhere between 3 to 4 hours to type.

The Process

Getting your recordings to us is a very simple process.  By using a digital voice recorder, PC, or laptop, you will be able to send us your audio files online, with ease.  We use a facility called ‘Dropbox’  which is a web based, file sharing service. It is completely free and only needs to be downloaded to your PC once.  Once you have your recording, you simply upload it to your dropbox and share it with us, we can access the recording and start transcribing it straight away.

We can then either ‘dropbox’ the completed document back to you, or email it, whichever is easier. This allows you to meet the tightest deadlines and trust that your work is being handled while you concentrate on the more important aspects of your business.

Types of Transcription Offered

Intelligent

An ‘Intelligent’ transcript, edits the words to develop a manuscript suitable for publication. Contractions are expanded (“‘yeah” becomes “yes”) and grammatical errors are corrected. In a case where the transcript is being prepared for broadcast or distribution, this is the best choice. It is especially helpful in situations where the listeners or readers were not present when the initial recording was made.

Unless a client requests otherwise, the work will be typed in Intelligent Transcript style.

Verbatim

‘Verbatim’ transcriptions are usually requested by academic institutions and researchers who need to be able to accurately recreate interviews. Every time the person on the recording pauses, coughs, or uses words like “hmm” and “erm”, that fact is noted. With this transcription style, all words are typed as said, including filler words such as “yeah” and “’cause”.
